As the latest earning reports of Activision Blizzard become public, yet another big drop in active player numbers has come to the surface. The recent times have already been very tumultuous for the Call of Duty devs, and this new revelation has given another severe blow to the company’s reputation.
Activision Blizzard has already been going through a rough patch due to the complications in Microsoft’s acquisition deal. As most parties and rivals in the market voiced their problems with the deal, on April 26 UK government took the step and announced its decision to block the deal entirely.
Their latest release, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 being massive hits had helped the studio somewhat secure their colossal reputation in the gaming industry. But with the player count drop revealed in the new report, that reputation has gained a small but significant dent.

Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty severely losing Active player count
According to the financial report, Activision boasted a huge 111 million active player count in Q4 2022, but in the latest quarter that number has dropped to 98 million. More than 10 million players have stopped logging in during the transition between the financial quarters. Many believe this drop happened because of the poor reception of the online games in MW 2 and Warzone 2.
During the launch, Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 both had astonishing hype and success, but as the games circulated among the community, the lack of sufficient content from the developers and desired additions and fixes to a long list of issues made a lot of players upset.

And as the days passed by, the general consensus about the titles became more and more negative, resulting in a drop in active player numbers.
Activision wasn’t the only one who lost players. Blizzard also witnessed a big drop in player count. According to the report, the Blizzard player count dropped from 45 million to 27 million. This is equivalent to almost a 40% drop in player counts. But Blizzard’s upcoming AAA sensation, Diablo 4, may make a change for the best.
