Call of Duty fans are excited for the next big installment set to arrive later this year. But Activision is already planning for the entire series in advance for the long term.
According to a new leak, the publisher will take an unusual approach for developer Infinity Ward’s next iteration of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It will reportedly come after six years from now.

Activision seems to be making a lot of changes this year. Right from the acquisition announcement by Microsoft to revealing that it won’t continue the tradition of rolling out a new Call of Duty each year, starting from 2023 itself. Basically, the approach now will be to have a fresh game every two years, most probably.
Considering this situation, industry insider and reputed scooper RalphsValve, on Twitter, came up with an interesting tweet recently. The leaker revealed that Activision, through Infinity Ward, will launch the next Modern Warfare after six years from now. Simply put, it will make its way in 2028, after this year’s yet-to-release MW 2 installment.

“With Call of Duty turning to biennial releases, Infinity Ward’s subsequent title, following the release of Modern Warfare II, will launch in 2028.”
“Infinity Ward are betting the farm with Call of Duty 2022, it’s either boom or bust.”
The future for Call of Duty is uncertain, ACTV plans are contingent on reacting to any changes in the industry — If anything, COD’s schedule will become more Studio/Developer-led.

There’s an obvious reason for this possibility to turn out true, eventually. Since a new Call of Duty will only come out in two years in the future, the next one will arrive in 2024 from Treyarch, in 2026 from Sledgehammer Games, and then in 2028 from Infinity Ward. This is, according to Ralph’s latest speculation based on what he must have learned.
Taking the bigger picture into account, then it will be a good way of putting more effort into the game’s development. Because the team will have an extra period to properly finish up all the tasks when it comes to a project’s making.
