Arguably the most-anticipated open-world game to date is Rockstar Games’ GTA 6. Although it has been long revealed that the studio is working on the title, they are yet to give anything concrete. Unfortunately, some GTA 6 gameplay leaked online earlier, giving fans a little taste of what to expect. Though Rockstar Games was quick to cover up those leaks and since then it has been radio silence from the studio.
In the meanwhile, industry experts are analyzing the hype around this upcoming Rockstar title. Previous reports indicated that this game would be the most expensive video game ever. But with fresh reports coming in, looks like Rockstar will be getting a hefty return of interest on GTA 6.

According to Joost van Dreunen, a games industry specialist, GTA 6 is likely to gross more than $1 billion in its first week. He’d initially stated that GTA 6 will have sales of around 25 million. While fans may argue GTA 5 broke $1 billion in sales in just 3 days, Dreunen also gave his reasons for this. He attributed delays in the launch and expected console installed base to giving this estimated sales number. He said, “Assuming a 2025 launch window, which is optimistic given the publisher’s propensity for delays, early estimates expect the new title to sell 25 million units”.
However, if Dreunen’s predictions come true, this new title will stay behind its predecessor in terms of sales. GTA 5 was a benchmark-setting game for Rockstar. In the first quarter of its release, the game sold over 32.5 million copies. However, the game had some factors in its favor that the next entry probably would not have.

This conversion might come along with a loss in user base due to multiple reasons. But GTA 5 evidently got the best of both worlds.

Rockstar released this game when PS3 and Xbox 360 were at their booming point. Furthermore, the studio re-released this title when PlayStation 4 and Xbox One dropped a year later. Rockstar games can take a page from their own playbook for their upcoming title and recreate this step for their new title too. And maybe the latest entry will surpass all expectations and sell recording-breaking numbers.
