Bungie has changed a lot after getting acquired by Sony as its first-party PlayStation studio. They are currently working on a new IP for PlayStation 5 known as Marathon, but that does not mean they have any intention of leaving Destiny 2 behind. The game continues to attract players, even if its player count has sunk significantly.
However, the developers got into some real trouble when they had to lay off a number of developers from their team. The studio came under a lot of heat for the decision. And now, it looks like every decision they have taken previously is having a negative effect on their in-development projects.

A couple of weeks ago, Bungie fired a bunch of developers. They also said goodbye to their longtime composer, Michael Salvatori. He had been working for the developer for over 20 years. They did all this mere days after the news broke that no one was thrilled about their upcoming new IP Marathon. It has been revealed that they chose a bunch of gamers to try this game out, but the response was lukewarm.

Their current ongoing IP, Destiny 2, is also in a lot of trouble. The game’s player count has dropped significantly, and new players rarely even look at it. Their only hope to revive interest in this game was to bring out the next content for it soon. But it looks like that too will not be happening anytime soon.
One fan made a post on X saying, “In today’s press release, Bungie is still saying The Final Shape releases February 27th.” The lack of update on the official site made fans hopeful about it. But these hopes were shattered by none other than games journalist Jason Schreier when he replied to the tweet, asking fans not to get their hopes up.
It appears Bungie is not doing so well, and their current projects are not taking off as they might have planned. All fans can do to know the truth of all this is to wait till February 27 and see if Jason is right or wrong.
Why trust Schreier?
For those having second thoughts about the authenticity of Jason Schreier’s statement, remember that he predicted the GTA 6 announcement pretty spot on. Mere hours after he leaked the details, Rockstar Games announced the trailer.

The GTA 6 trailer, though, would be released at a later date in December. He has hardly been wrong before either. In 2020, he confirmed a bunch of information about Fallout 4 amidst rumors flying, and he was also the person to reveal details on Ubisoft’s then-unannounced Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. The best part is, he only says something when he has the confirmation. Hence, it is suggested that fans should take Jason a bit more seriously.
