Ubisoft’s recent entry to the Far Cry series is making the rounds on the news again, and not for the right reasons. Players have found that they were delivered the incorrect version of the game. This prevents them from using the features they paid for.

Players reported that in spite of buying the game in the UK, they received the Russian version of the game. This problem has several implications. Players who wish to upgrade the game to the PS5 can do so by making a Russian PlayStation Network account. This, however, means that they will not be able to access the DLC and other premium features they paid a hefty sum for.

Gamer Stuart Pearson took to Twitter to explain the problem. He attempted to play Far Cry 6 on a non-Russian player account. Even though the user interface reflected that the game disc was inserted, no option was shown to upgrade to the PS5. He went on to show how switching to a Russian account allows the player to upgrade the copy for the PS5.

This problem is not limited to the UK. Players from other European countries such as Greece and Germany took to Ubisoft’s support forum to complain about the Far Cry 6 copies they received.

Far Cry 6 is not Ubisoft’s first region encoding blunder

Far Cry 6 is not the first Ubisoft release to witness this issue. Last year’s release of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla again left West European customers with the Russian version of the game, preventing them from upgrading to premium features. Ubisoft acknowledged the issue and fixed it. This provides reassurance to the distraught players who have had to face issues because of Ubisoft sending the wiring region-coded game again.

Far Cry 6 is set in the fictional tropical nation Yara. The location has drawn inspiration from Cuba and shows the protagonist waging a guerilla war against the oppressive dictator and leader of the nation, Anton Castillo. The game was released on October 7 and is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna, Google Stadia, and PC.
