For a very long time, Starfield has remained the topmost-talking trend in the gaming community. The buzz around the Xbox exclusive before its release would go down among the most historic countdowns to releases in eSports. To no one’s surprise, the response to the Bethesda giant has been phenomenal post its launch on the 6th of September. The game continues to dominate the headlines as it recently added another feather to its cap.
The initial signs around the hype of Starfield were quite promising indeed. Earlier, when the early access had gone live on Steam, the title had been accessed by over 200,000 gamers in just a matter of hours. These numbers were just a trailer for the upcoming dominance of the Bethesda giant. Carrying on the record-breaking streak, Starfield managed to break the record of a widely celebrated classic, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim!

The open-world RPG has successfully taken over the peak of concurrent player numbers achieved by Skyrim. According to the Steam database, Starfield recorded its peak number of concurrent players on the 10th of September, Sunday. The numbers went up as high as 330,723. This Sunday peak for the Xbox exclusive successfully surpassed the twelve-year-old record of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. About 12 years ago, Skyrim had achieved their peak number of concurrent players to 287,411.
Being two of the most promising titles of their times, Starfield and Skyrim have been subjected to a lot of comparisons throughout the campaigning of the Xbox special. A lot of players have claimed the game’s intention is quite congruent to that of the Elder Scrolls V. Adding to that, a glaring similarity that both giants share is the emphasis given to the freedom of decisions and choice in the narrative of the game.

The term concurrent players on Steam refers to the number of gamers playing a game at the same particular time. For a game that’s just a week old, beating a legendary classic’s lifelong highest peak is a commendable achievement. However, the numbers recorded for Starfield on Steam might not tell you the complete story about the hype of the game.
Understanding the statistics
The newest Bethesda RPG besides registering such massive figures still runs behind another Bethesda title. Fallout 4, being another elite creation of the pioneers of open-world classics, recorded a peak of 472,962 allegedly days after its release. The role-playing was released in the year 2015, making it an eight-year-old record. Comparing this record to the current peak of Starfield, surpassing Fallout 4 seems like a long shot. However, there’s a twist.

The 2015 release didn’t have a subscription service on the day of release, whereas Starfield did. Fallout 4 is also currently accessible on Xbox Game Pass. As a result, it’s still possible that Starfield has had more concurrent PC gamers when Game Pass users are included, although this is unknown. So, there’s a high possibility Starfield would break the Fallout 4 record without being able to officially register it as a victory.
