NieR: Automata was a revolutionary video game. It brought never before seen depth to the gaming media. The deep and moving storyline, mixed with master-level sound design and unique yet fun gameplay, gave the game and its Director Yoko Taro worldwide recognition. The series was ported on all the platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The original NieR was released back in 2017, on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It garnered a massive and loyal following. The grim, dark world and the subtle symbolisms of the game gave it a high bench among the critics.
But even after the game’s success and planet-wide recognition, it is still missing one of the opportunities that could immortalize the series in that gaming history. And that is getting featured in the Super Smash Bros roster.
Yoko Taro laments over NieR not getting featured on Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros
Super Smash Bros is a crossover fighting game series published by Nintendo. Masahiro Sakurai is the creator of the series and he is the one who directs every single installment. Super Smash Bros has a massive reputation in the community.

As the series features iconic characters from the biggest Nintendo and other third-party games, the series immortalizes these characters with each new game. Getting featured in the Smash Bros roster is a guarantee that the upcoming generations will also get to chance to experience these iconic characters.
But even with its success and influence in gaming history, NieR hasn’t secured its place on the Smash Bros roster yet. The fans have urged Nintendo for a long while but, unfortunately, there have been no updates regarding NieR characters in Smash Bros.
Even Yoko Taro himself expressed his distaste for the matter. In an interview with NintendoLife, Yoko said, “I am hugely disappointed that we did not make it in time to get into Smash Bros…”
