In the YouTube sphere, Felix Kjellberg, aka PewDiePie, is a colossal personality. Being the only content creator to hold the No. 1 position on the platform for over five years, he is one of the driving forces behind the mainstream status of the gaming genre on YouTube.

Now semi-retired from his online career, Felix is set to step into a new phase in his life, probably one of the most important. Only a few months ago, the YouTube power couple PewDiePie and Marzia shared they were expecting a baby, and this news broke the internet. Now, Felix has given yet another insight, revealing the child’s gender in the most unique way possible.

PewDiePie makes a Japanese-style gender reveal

Gender reveals have a terrible rep, because of the recent accidents that were caused by irresponsible celebratory rituals. But PewDiePie opted for the most beautiful and fantasy-inspired gender reveal possible. On May 5, Pewds posted a vlog where he celebrated Koinobori with Marzia and showed some floating fish, saying, “If you know what these mean, then you know the gender.”

Now, if you are familiar with Japanese culture, then you have already gotten your answer. But for those who are unaware, Koinobori is the equivalent of Children’s Day in the West. Where Japanese families hoist fish-shaped flags to pray for their children’s prosperity and health. But in ancient times, this tradition had another meaning.

Back in the Kamakura period (1185–1333), this tradition was solely associated with boys. As warrior families used to hoist large red carp-shaped flags to pray for their eldest son and his glory, that is why this day is also known as Boy’s Day. So yes, showing a Koinobori flag in his vlog confirms that he and Marzia are expecting a BOY!

In the vlog, Pewds also shared that Marzia is facing some complications regarding her pregnancy. Some reports indicated she could face premature labor. However, PewDiePie has assured us that Marzia is being very careful and trying her best to maintain her and the baby’s health as well as she can!
