Ubisoft is looking to revamp its Assassin’s Creed titles altogether. With the next entry to the series, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, the franchise will enter into a new phase. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was released last month and the fans hailed the dev’s decision to get back the franchise’s roots. However, AC: Mirage’s overwhelming responses have only propelled higher expectations for the next AC title.

Now, Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will have its “Modern Day” story set in a futuristic Japan. While this may offer a plethora of prospects, the fans aren’t quite sure how to take the news. AC: Codename Red is poised to bring a lot of changes to the franchise, but its potential to successfully do so is a matter of extensive debate.

Next Assassin’s Creed title will take fans back to the future

The next AC title will be the starting point for the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform. It will ditch the traditional way of how AC games tell modern-day storylines through playable characters. Thus, a major departure from the franchise norms is expected by the community. While AC: Mirage swept fans off their feet with its tribute to the older days of the franchise, the new game is expected to set things deep into the future.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will see is historical side of things set in Feudal Japan, while the “Modern Day” arc will see the story unfold during the last decade of the 21st century. The game is slated to be released in 2024 and is expected to bring new Abstergo Industries characters.

Marc-Alexis Côté, the producer of multiple AC titles confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be a great entry point for new fans to join the franchise. Ubisoft Quebec is currently developing Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. Fans of the series have requested an AC game set in Japan for a long, long time, and things are finally looking bright!

Fans unsure of what’s coming their way

While Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been met with fantastic reviews, its successor is already plagued by community skepticism. Bradley thinks that Ubisoft will be better off cutting the modern-day storyline altogether with the new Assassin’s Creed title and just overhauling the franchise from the bottom.

This fan also thinks this may bode the end of the franchise if the devs seek to take the series down this path.

Anotonio isn’t having any of this new “future” thing either. He had to take the time and let Ubisoft in on the community’s sentiments.
