“If There Is No Other Choice” – Twitter’s Torchbearer Elon Musk Gives the End Result if Google and Apple Remove Twitter

Twitter has welcomed its new torchbearer, Elon Musk. The months-long speculation ended on October 27 when the business tycoon acquired Twitter for $44 billion. Moreover, as he inaugurated the role of CEO, he has been seen making drastic changes to the platform. But is the CEO thinking of making an alternative phone?

Elon Musk is one of the most renowned personalities in the community. From being the CEO of SpaceX to revamping Twitter, the businessman is often seen inventing new possibilities. Surprisingly, something tells us about him releasing a new smartphone if Google and Apple remove Twitter from their respective stores.

To give a brief, Elon has been sighted to be not on the side of a duopoly. Recently, the Twitter account Slashdot (@slashdot) tweeted, “Epic Says Google Paid Activision Millions Not To Launch Rival App Store.” Moreover, the tweet had attached a link to educate about the respective topic. To this tweet, Elon replied, “App store fees are obviously too high due to the iOS/Android duopoly. It is a hidden 30% tax on the Internet.”

As reported by the organization CNET, here’s another instance of Elon speaking on the duopoly. As learned from CNET, Epic Games had once introduced its own payment system to bypass Apple’s 30% fee for App Store purchases.  To this, Elon gave his thoughts by saying, “Apple app store fees are a de facto global tax on the Internet. Epic is right.”

Back then, Elon stated, “Normally, competitive pressure would force Apple to lower fees, but Apple & Android have a duopoly on phones. When interface familiarity is taken into account, it’s basically a monopoly. The effective 30% sales tax Apple charges is hidden from users or there would be an outcry.” Nevertheless, it seems Elon has something in mind if Apple and Google remove Twitter from their respective stores.

Recently, the Twitter account Liz Wheeler @Liz_Wheeler tweeted, “If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?” 

Furthermore, this caught Elon’s attention. To this tweet, he replied, “I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone.” Hence, one can absorb the fact that the business tycoon does have an alternative planned if the respective events take place.

It is important to mention that no such developments have been carried out by Apple or Google. And the events stand on the possibility of an “if.” However, it would be safe to say that, if something happens, Elon would look forward to “make an alternative phone.”
