In contemporary society, Gaming is no longer a mere hobby or a means of passing time. It has evolved into an enormous industry that revolves around gamers’ love and passion for interactive media. But even though it is highly mainstream, we still consider gaming an expensive medium. Most of the AAA games on steam are an example of it.
But to the surprise of the internet, the most expensive game on the online store is not a high-production premium game but an indie title that is priced way beyond any AAA developer can ever dream of. What began as a joke by the developer resulted in some backlash from news media and trolling by the internet communities.

Internet trolls the most expensive game on Steam
On Twitter, an online journalist and influencer drama reporter, Jake Lucky, revealed the most expensive game available on the online game store, Steam. With his tweet, Jake revealed that an indie game named ‘MegaJump’ is the most expensive game in the store with a price tag of $502,000.

According to Jake, this price was the result of a Joke by the developer. “He(dev) was trying to make a joke. Apparently, when submitting your price request there is a way to edit that price request and use any amount and he entered 5.66 Million Norwegian krones or equivalent to 500k Dollars.”

While requesting the price, he had no idea that they will accept it as the wallet limit of Steam had a cap of $2000, so even if there is someone who wants to buy it, they just simply can’t. Jake believes that this absurd amount slipped through the automated cracks of Steam’s authorization system and there should be a manual review of the price. Currently, they have disabled the buy option for the game.
But that’s not it. Jake has also found out that this Joke had some serious repercussions as the Chinese news media had picked up the story and alleged it to be a money laundering scam. Jake said, “He’s made it into several Chinese news sites accusing him of money laundering”.
In the end, Jake gave an update saying Steam has recognized the problem and they are looking forward to it. Though it still remains to be the most expensive game on the platform, it won’t be long till they publish some verdict published on the game’s price. “Looks like Steam has resolved the issue, possible updates later. RIP”
How did the fans react?
The fans poured into the comments, making memes and sarcastic jokes about the game’s price.
