The HBO Max’s hit show, The Last of Us, is based on the legendary gaming series by the American Developing studio, Naughty Dog. The original game was released back in 2013 and quickly became a phenomenon in the world of gaming. With a dramatic story mixed with in-depth combat, the title set a new bar for the industry.

Previously, there have been a lot of attempts at adapting the game into a feature-length movie, but due to misalignment between the studio executives and the writers, it never got to see the light of day. However, with the joint efforts of the original creator (Neil Druckmann) and ‘Chernobyl’ writer Craig Mazin, a television adaptation was finally green-lit by HBO.

After finally getting the perfect means to bring the Last of Us to the television screens, the development team poured every last drop of sweat possible to make the grand piece that is the Last of Us show. Even the actors were requested to maintain strict discipline for their performance, including not touching the original game before completing the shoot. 

Bella Ramsey shares her experience with the Last of Us

One of the lead actresses in the show, Bella Ramsey, who plays the protagonist, Ellie, shared how she felt playing the game after completing her shoot. She revealed by saying, “I actually started playing it like 2 weeks ago. I watched some gameplay before even though they asked me not to play it. So I was aware of it, familiar with it. But I never actually sat down and been like Joel and Ellie.”

“I get in a room and think there might be something relevant here. And I am like wandering around, then end up getting lost. Because I’ve forgotten where the entrance and the exits are. Because I got so confused walking around in a circle,” said the young sensation of the Last of Us.

One of the showrunners, Craig Mazin famously revealed that he had requested all the cast not to touch the original game before the shooting is wrapped, as they wanted to keep the performance as fresh as possible so the actors could feel the characters in their own way and not imitate the originals.
