Video Games are interactive media that offer in-depth immersion where the control is always in the user’s hands. For a long time, there has been a thought pondering that giving an individual the liberty to do violent acts, even in a fantasy setting, may not be very good for impressionable minds. YouTube veteran Moistcr1tikal gives his piece of mind on this, regarding the ultra-realistic body-cam games.

Using the innovations of Unreal Engine 5, developers have been creating a new genre of games. With ultra-realistic visuals that resemble the footage from a body-cam, these games trudge the thin line between real and virtual. Among these games, the most anticipated and controversial is the FPS game called, Unrecorded.

Moistcr1tikal shares thoughts on ultra-realistic body cam games

In one of his recent videos, Charlie gave his thoughts on “Unrecorded”. He reacted to the trailer, which gave him the vibes of the old-school IRL gore-sharing website, Live Leak. The trailer showed the gameplay that follows the perspective of a police officer who engages in gunfights and the players get to experience it through the footage of his body cam.

After watching the trailer, Moistcr1tikal said, “If you just showed me that video as I was scrolling through Twitter, I’d 100 percent think I was on LiveLeak. It really does look like you are just watching real footage of someone getting into a gunfight. But it’s not, it is a game.” The ultra-realistic visual even got him the first time.

Charlie shared how the debate about video games being too realistic and making people more violent existed ever since the release of the first DOOM game. He bashed the ones who supported this notion by saying, “out-of-touch archaic fossils that don’t play in the first place.” But according to the content creator, this new wave of games may turn things around for real this time, as they are “just too real”.

According to Moist, this ultra-realistic game could actually influence the minds of younger players. He pointed out the concerns of the modern gaming community who think this type of body came games can “bastardize” the concept of violence and gore in the minds of young and impressionable kids.

Even the infamous gambling streamer Trainwreckstv chimed into this debate as he once said on Twitter, “This level of realism, in my opinion, gives real credibility to the nonsense politicians have been spewing for years about video games conditioning young people to lose a sense of empathy toward violent tendencies or situations.”
