The last time they decided to reboot the series was in 2013 with Tomb Raider. It was a dark take on this series and ended up selling around 14 million copies by 2021. Equally successful Rise of Tomb Raider and Shadow of Tomb Raider followed that game.
Crystal Dynamics is working on a new Tomb Raider
The previous trilogy concluded with Shadow of Tomb Raider. Eidos Montreal developed it as Crystal Dynamics was working on the anticipated Avengers game. The third game in the series was released to a positive response from players and critics and successfully ended that trilogy.
After The Avengers game failed to meet expectations, Crystal Dynamics parted ways with their long-time publisher Square Enix and were bought by CDE Entertainment. Now that all their previous engagements are over, Crystal Dynamics have once again started working on a new adventure title.
Hence, the development of a new game in the series started. This game has been in early development at this studio for around 2 years now.
The official Tomb Raider Twitter account made this announcement by saying “We are excited to announce that @CrystalDynamics has partnered with @AMZNGameStudios on the next major entry in the Tomb Raider series, which will continue Lara Croft’s saga in a single-player, story-driven multiplatform adventure. Amazon Games will support & publish globally!”
The Fans have a variable response to this announcement!
This partnership has confused a number of people. The fans who are otherwise excited by this newest entry in the series can’t wait to know why the parent company of Crystal Dynamics is not publishing the game. And some are just excited that there’s a new game in the series being developed.

How does this work with y'all having to go outside of your parent company, Embracer, to publish your game?
I'm genuinely asking because to my knowledge, don't parent companies typically act as the publisher?

But the biggest take from this announcement is, that the game would be multi-platform. It looks like Crystal Dynamics is going to ignore any platform exclusivity with this game. Let us see when we get to see the actual game itself.
