The founding CEO of Hanger 13, Haden Blackman has resigned from his post. Blackman launched the studio in 2014, and it quickly rose to prominence in the game industry with its critically praised Mafia series.
The studio, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, took up production of the Mafia franchise from another Take-Two subsidiary, Illusion Softworks. With the announcement of the new Mafia 4, recent job openings at Hanger 13 have hinted to fans that more games in the series are coming.

Blackman’s successor, Nick Baynes said to Bloomberg that he “Aims to green-light a sequel to Project Nero (Mafia 4) while it is still in development”. With two projects of Hanger 13 canceled, all eyes are on the release of Mafia 4. It’s been six years since fans got a brand-new Mafia game. While the news of Mafia 4 is hugely exciting, it looks like its sequel is also on the way.
Job openings for the Executive Producer role were posted on Hanger 13’s LinkedIn page. An excerpt from the job listing read, “This role will play a vital part in the successful delivery of a major new title, including post-launch content and future franchise planning”. This means the studio is wishing to develop both the titles together.

This move may seem unusual but can be explained. Many game studios are laying employees off. Hangar 13 is also doing the same. They want to avoid losing those who work on Mafia 4, preferring to build both titles with the same core crew.
