Following the release of the Burning Shores DLC, fans already knew the next installment of the Horizon series is coming. Amidst this, Guerrilla Games, a Sony-owned studio, has officially confirmed the departure of studio director and executive producer Angie Smets.

Smets will move to PlayStation Studios, another department of Sony, as the Head of Development Strategy. In the message, the studio thanked Smets for her service of over two decades. But the message also included a surprise for Horizon fans.

Guerrilla confirmed Horizon: Forbidden West sequel is in the works

Surprisingly, Guerrilla Games casually announced the development of future Horizon projects in the message. With the shuffling of top management, the announcement of the future Horizon title brought joy to the fans. The message talked about the expansion of the Horizon world in the future.

The message also mentioned an ‘exciting online project’ alongside the future Horizon title being developed. No further details about these two titles were shared. Although, fans have started speculating about what the online project is. Many are saying it is the rumored Horizon MMO, a collaboration between Sony and NCSoft.

Guerrilla Games also issued a statement about their new leaders. “We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future,” read the message.

The new leadership for the studio will be Joel Eschler (Studio Director and Production Director) and Hella Schmidt (Studio Director and General Manager), alongside Jan-Bart van Beek (Studio Director and Art Director). Smets also thanked Jan-Bart van Beek, along with Michiel van der Leeuw. She talked about how the trio grew together and reached the top of Guerrilla. “You’ve become like brothers to me, and there’s no way to thank you enough,” said Smets.

With the recent release of Burning Shores DLC, fans would have to wait for quite some time for any news on the sequel of Horizon Forbidden West. But looking at the amazing graphics of Burning Shores, it is safe to say its sequel will also be a stellar title.
