As the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 gets closer, fans cannot help but compare the remake to the original game. And turns out, many fans are actually unhappy with the state of the upcoming game. Players have already gotten a sneak peek at the beta program of the game and it’s safe to say it hasn’t impressed too many.

This has been noticed in the past too. When the original Modern Warfare 3 released back in 2011, many gamers felt like MW3 was just a DLC for MW2. With the players now having access to the details from the upcoming game with the beta, similar comparisons are being drawn.

A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) drew attention to what fans believe is going on in the Call of Duty series. Many players are complaining about the upcoming game resembling a DLC for MWII, but similar accusations were made in the past.

The tweet resurrected a much older tweet from 2011, which someone had posted during the launch of the original MW3. The 11-year-old tweet provided a detailed breakdown of the content differences between MW2 and MW3. Further, it emphasized that MW3 offered substantial additional content, which made it more than just an expansion.

Some players saw MW3 as a significant upgrade, citing numerous improvements. This comparison considered not just content but also gameplay and technology. The tweet acknowledged that some might perceive MW3 as a money grab, but argued that it offered comparatively affordable value. It highlighted the subjective nature of valuing a game.

The initial MW3-MW2 DLC comparison foreshadowed debates on the annual Call of Duty releases and iterative updates. “We’ve come full circle” shows this debate’s ongoing relevance, especially as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III approaches.

The debate about MWIII continues

The community was left divided as players and fans shared their opinions on the ‘MW3 being a DLC’ argument. The top comment on the post was one that spoke both sides of the argument. While some points asserted the originality of MW3, others criticized the upcoming game as “recycled content.”

One player has shed some light on how the industry has changed. He criticized the amount that players need to spend today, even for something as simple as ‘gun skin’, as compared to what players got for the same amount in MW2 dlc.

Another player has pointed out the familiar feeling of the debate, indicating the debate has been ongoing for a very long time.

A coping player stated the famous proverb, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”
