COD makers know how to play with the mind.
Activision recently rolled out the newest update for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II. Along with that, the makers also unveiled a revamped Battle Pass called BlackCell. In other words, it can be termed as the premium, luxurious experience for those who want to spend more in-game to get attractive cosmetics and other stuff.
Oh, and this BlackCell costs $30 to acquire all the items it features in MWII’s Season 3. Ever since it was first revealed, this Battle Pass has ended up generating a lot of controversy. Amid other issues faced by Infinity Ward’s ongoing installment, this one’s also in the focus. Many people have criticized the makers for wasting time on such content rather than improving the title itself. But it seems like the BlackCell is turning out to be a huge hit despite the hate it’s receiving.

BlackCell Battle Pass emerges in the top selling list of Steam alongside Call of Duty Modern Warfare II
In case anyone missed keeping track of its details, the BlackCell offers just about everything a normal Battle Pass has. On top of that, however, it gives the player the following perks:
- Access to the complete Season 03 Battle Pass and 20 Tier Skips.
- Instantly awarded 1,100 COD Points.
- Up to 1,400 COD Points are awarded throughout the Battle Pass.
- A BlackCell Operator, in an imposing animated Camo skin.
- A Pro-Tuned Weapon Blueprint, Vehicle Skin, and a Finishing Move as well.
- An exclusive BlackCell Sector within the Battle Pass AO serves as an alternative starting location.
- Immediate unlocking of adjacent Battle Pass Sectors to the BlackCell Sector.
- Additional, BlackCell-only Battle Pass content: Every Season 03 Battle Pass Sector with an Operator Skin has a BlackCell variant (12 Skins in total) to unlock.
Technically, purchasing it is more than just having tier skips in Call of Duty Modern Warfare II. If one has to assume, the makers have tried to give amazing-looking content which is simply inevitable to miss. It makes you go for it even if you are not willing to – simply to prevent yourself from missing out on something. Perhaps that’s the main reason why this $30 Battle Pass has succeeded despite getting constant backlash. But how?

A Forbes writer recently managed to observe the digital store Steam’s list of top-selling video games, a few days back. In his Tweet, he mentioned that the BlackCell Battle Pass for MWII was in the third spot among other best sellers. Now that’s something unnatural, given the fact that it’s not a video game at all. But somehow, it has managed to get popular among the players on Steam who own Modern Warfare II.

The $30 BlackCell premium deluxe Battle Pass for #ModernWarfare2 and #Warzone2 is currently the third best-seller on Steam according to SteamDB, just behind the game and, of course, Counter-Strike. Kind of a genius move on Activision's part. pic.twitter.com/FXme5wHlv6

All things considered, it can be called a masterstroke from Activision to bring out something like this. People can hate it, but they can’t deny that the BlackCell looks attractive. And that’s why it is selling quite nicely too!
