Many longtime fans of Xbox would remember what came before Game Pass, though. Xbox Games with Gold, is a service that kicked off the trend of online gaming services in the industry.

To this day, Xbox users can buy themselves Xbox Gold if they have consoles, which would allow them to play multiplayer games. Like PlayStation Plus, it would also give them access to a bunch of monthly games to add to their library. It’s indeed a very good service, offering people exactly what they paid for. Hence, it would be a shock for longtime fans to know that this service is getting swapped!

Microsoft is replacing Xbox Live Gold with Xbox Game Pass Core

Now that they have almost acquired Activision Blizzard, it appears Microsoft is ready to take the next step. This next step seems to be the complete overhaul of their Xbox Game Pass service. First, they decided to stop the preview program for Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family.

Then they increased the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This top-tier access to Xbox’s games library would start costing players $16.99 from next month on.

They have followed these two with yet another shocker, the long-running Xbox Live Gold service for these consoles will now be discontinued. It would be replaced with Xbox Game Pass Core. Core would be the lowest tier of this service and would offer players a few games that they could enjoy.

This announcement came on Twitter along with the list of games subscribers would get. The official post regarding the same said, “Today, we’re continuing our commitment to give players more choice and value by introducing Xbox Game Pass Core, launching on September 14. Game Pass Core is the evolution of Xbox Live Gold. Game Pass Core will give players access to our advanced multiplayer network, a select collection of over 25 games to play with friends around the world, and exclusive member deals, all for $9.99 USD per month or $59.99 USD per year.”

It’s also said that new titles will be added to this service 2-3 times a year. This does not seem like a half-bad deal. It has to be seen how fans react to it, though.
