One of the first steps to getting the best experience from the game is to identify the specs of the display. Ideally, players looking for the best experience should use a 120 Hz TV or monitor with VRR support and 4K resolution. This will ensure that players are getting the most out of the game and the PlayStation 5. While this is not mandatory, players used to playing on a 60Hz can also enjoy an aesthetically pleasing game.

Once players get into the graphics settings, it is best to use the Fidelity mode with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) set to Smoothed. Players also need to put the 120 Hz mode on Auto. As many players are used to gaming on 30FPS and 60FPS, Insomniac Studios is trying something different by utilizing the technology behind 120 Hz refresh rates to deliver 40 FPS at 4K resolution.

Although many fans would expect the middle ground to be 45FPS, mathematically 40FPS is more accurate to being the middle point. 60 FPS equates to about 16.67 milliseconds per frame, while 30 FPS results in roughly 33.3 milliseconds between frames. In contrast, 40 FPS has around 25 milliseconds per frame, precisely halfway between 16.67 and 33.3 milliseconds, which explains its perceived closeness to 60 FPS.
