The Super Mario Bros. Wonder presentation at the Nintendo Direct started off with fans being introduced to the Flower Kingdom. located just beyond the mushroom kingdom. The new place felt like a breath of fresh air and Mario lovers have something absolutely new to look forward to after a long time. Mario and Co. have been invited to the Flower Kingdom by the charming Prince Florian.
As expected, we also got to see Bowser soon enough. Bowser came to rain on the party and we saw the monster using the Wonder Flower to merge with Florian’s castle to become a gigantic monster, like something straight out of a nightmare. Now, Bowser is out to spread chaos across the realms and Mario and his friends need to put a stop to the monstrosity.
The Flower Kingdom is made of 6 different worlds surrounding the Petal Isles; Pipe-Rock Plateau, Fluff-Puff Peaks, Shining Falls, Petal Isles, and some mystery areas.
An interesting feature here is the open area where players can pick levels in the order they prefer. Another cool feature, and frankly, wholesome, is talking flowers, which interact and give hints.
Here, we got to see glimpses of more regions from the new game, including Petal Isles and Shining Falls.
Characters and abilities
The Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Direct also revealed the characters we can play as. Aside from the titular character, players will be able to play as Luigi, Peach, Daisy, two Toads, Toadette, Yoshi and Nabbit. However, the devs have done away with different abilities for different characters this time. Princess Peaches can’t float, nor can Luigi jump higher than others. However, Nabbit and Yoshi won’t take damage, for the most part.
Elephant and Fire Flower power-ups were also highlighted at the show. The game seemingly revolves around the Wonder Flower. The Wonder Flower can be triggered by unique events and can grant bizarre new powers to the characters. For instance, Mario can use the Wonder Flower to turn into a Goomba. The Elephant form can be used to go over large gaps and break through bricks. While characters can use Bubbles to beat enemies, as well as jump over long distances. The list is long, the possibilities are endless, and the game promises a lot of fun.
Use badges to your advantage
As players progress through the game, they can earn badges that offer unique abilities. The parachute cap badge can help you to slow down your fall. On the other hand, the wall climb jump badge offers higher jumping capabilities. The dolphin kick badge provides faster speeds underwater. You can even use this badge to break blocks while submerged.
The grappling vine badge helps you to shoot vines and stick to the walls. The safety bounce badge, sensor badge, and magnet badge all have unique abilities that can help players along their journeys to banish Bowser from the Flower Kingdom.

Players can play online or with up to three friends locally. Connecting to online servers allows other players to appear on the world map or on courses in real-time. The other players aren’t there just shadows. They can play important roles in helping you out in case your character bites the curb at any point. The Super Mario Bros. Wonder is expected to play out a lot like co-op games and fans are excited with the prospects offered by the devs.
New Enemies
First up is Hoppycats. Tricky creatures. Players will have to watch out as they’ll jump when Mario jumps. Then come the Melon Piranha plants which spit seeds! Condarts will fly at players to attack with their beaks, so best watch out for those! And there are many more! Konks can attack through goo, so players who think they’re safe in the goo might have to think again. And the list goes on.
