During San Diego Comic-Con 2023, McFarlane viewed Spider-Man 2 Venom and commented on his features. He shared the first thing he looks for in every new version of Venom that comes out is their size. In Spider-Man 2, Venom being bigger than the superhero was a great thing for him. He said, “I think they did a nice job of making him feel like a monster. To me, I’m a big monster fan.”
McFarlane commended the artists for making the features of the alien symbiote bold and savage. He said, “They’re making him look kind of vicious. He doesn’t seem like he’s coming to play nice, which to me is Venom the anti-hero.”
