There’s nothing like an old favorite coming back to take over the town. Rust is one of those games that have stayed alive for a surprisingly long time. Facepunch Studios’ survival horror title was fully released in 2018, after being early access for almost five years. Now, it looks like three indie devs have made Rust their secret project to bring back the game with a twist.

While big-budget games from popular studios get things right most of the time, there is always a subset of players whose needs aren’t properly met. These players would love their favorite titles to have specific modes or details that would make the games more alluring. Sometimes the devs keep an open mind and bring new updates to keep up with the fans’ requirements, sometimes they don’t. And, sometimes, there are dedicated community members who are willing to shoulder the responsibilities.

An industry insider recently shared information about a Rust Battle Royale on X (formerly Twitter). The insider has taken to the social media platform to reveal that the project has been in the works for 6 months and is being developed by only 3 people. Rust is still one of the most-played survival games in the world. Undoubtedly, a new battle royale mode will only attract more players to the fold.

The BR mode would allow lobbies with up to 60 players. Anyone who has played the game would know that you need to do a lot of stuff to stay alive in Rust. The devs used both in-game and community-built resources to design the BR mode. A whole new island has been created to accommodate 60 players trying to be the last man standing.

Weapons and usable things can be found scattered across the map in open locations inside barrels. A customized mini-map has also been designed for the Rust BR purpose. The post also reveals that there are plans for further additions to the map as well as killstreak awards.

The community shows incredible enthusiasm

The BR mode was officially launched on October 1, but things were kept pretty low-key. Now, with more people coming to know about it, the fans seem stoked about Rust’s new offering. Welyn remembers something like this used to be a thing back in 2016 that gradually went under the radar. But at least it’s back, so that’s something to be happy about.

Luke thinks a BR mode is helpful for Rust players, given how addictive it can be.

This fan doesn’t have a lot of previous experience with Rust, but the new game mode is certainly something they’d like to check out.

Anna believes the devs should take notice of the effort shown by the 3 individuals and make them an official part of the team.
