Arguably Bethesda’s biggest announcement, with Starfield alongside it, Elder Scroll 6 left fans shocked. The entire franchise has been a pioneer in terms of doing open-world games with captivating stories. As a result, when the game was first announced, fans hoped they would receive it soon. However, seems like this may not be the case. In fact, Bethesda director Todd Howard reckons its announcement was too early.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Howard was being asked questions about Starfield, when Elder Scrolls 6 came up. The interviewer asked if he regretted announcing Elder Scrolls 6 when he did, and he revealed there are times when he thinks so. During the interview, he says, “I have asked myself that a lot I don’t know. I probably would’ve announced it more casually.”

He alludes to the fashion in which he announced the game. At the time, the announcement had a picture of mountains inviting explorers, and Elder Scrolls 6 stamped on it. Howard believes a more casual announcement would have kept fans from thinking the game was farther along in the development process than it actually was.

At the moment, the next installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise is years away. Most estimates put its launch five years from now, meaning in 2028. According to Microsoft’s estimates, that is when the next generation of consoles will launch. There is a good chance Elder Scrolls 6 might skip an entire console generation!
