The studio had already announced that the title will feature free-to-play multiplayer and it has been released for the community. Naturally, the community flocked to the steam and immediately download the game. Steam saw a record-breaking number of players flocking to the game.

Reddit user, u/TheVideoGaymer shed light on the number of players who jumped onto steam to play the game. In just the opening hour of its release, over 100K concurrent players were seen tuning into the game.

Going free-to-play was indeed the perfect decision for the game, as the modern era of multiplayer games has turned its course to free-to-play. Halo’s decision to go free-to-play will open doorways for newer fans to hop into the game. This will bring more fanbase to the title, exposing the legend of MasterChef to a wider audience.

Another user on the thread stated that the number of players rose to 200k in a matter of hours. This speaks volumes about the title’s growth and bright future. Free-to-play games like Apex Legends, Fortnite, Valorant, Warzone have changed the FPS genre for the better. Instead of adding a pay-wall in front of the title, this new model of generating revenue through in-game cosmetics allows fans to experience the game. This new model has proven to be a great success, as other titles have reported huge profits, which Halo can also capitalize.
