The Halo series has established itself as a staple figure in the gaming industry. Players fondly reminisce about the fun they have had with the classic Halo games. However, with the phasing in of newer titles, bad news awaits those who still play the old games.

Classic Halo titles to be phased out

Microsoft, the publishers of this title used a blog post to inform the community about the sad news of the games’ ‘sunsetting’. As it stands, the inevitability of time has caught up with the titles. The game’s official Twitter account became the harbinger of even more sad news about the game.

The link directs the player to the Halo support site. It mentions a list of titles which, effective January 13, will have their online services terminated indefinitely. The titles which will be affected by this phasing out are:

  • Halo: Reach
  • Halo 4
  • Halo 3
  • Halo 3: ODST
  • Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
  • Spartan Assault
  • Halo Wars

However, not all services and features of these titles will be suspended. Some aspects of the old Halo titles will be functioning. These include:

Halo: Reach – Campaign, Firefight, Custom games, Forge, Splitscreen, Local Area Networking (LAN), Online squads, support will vary for Achievements

Halo 4 – Campaign, Spartan ops, Custom games, Forge, Splitscreen, LAN, Online squads, support will vary for Achievements.

Halo 3 – Campaign, Custom games, Forge, Splitscreen, LAN, Online squads, Service record, Player customization, support will vary for Achievements.

Halo 3: ODST – Campaign, Firefight, Splitscreen, LAN, Online squads, Service record, and Player customization.

Halo: CE Anniversary – Campaign, Splitscreen and LAN

Halo: Spartan Assault – Campaign, Online Squads, and Matchmaking

Halo Wars – Campaign, Online Squads, and Matchmaking

Adding on, players who are playing these titles on the Xbox One via the backward compatibility feature will also be subject to the shutdown.

It is a well-known fact that these titles have a sense of nostalgia associated with them. Playing them without the iconic and beloved multiplayer feature does not feel right. Hence, these titles which fall under the Master Chief Collection will function as normal. Fans and players can revisit these titles and play them with all features without any hassle.

The titles being phased out will definitely be missed.
