Supergiant’s Hades 1 was a phenomenon. It revolutionized the genre of rougelikes with its fluid gameplay cycle which doesn’t feel repetitive even for the 100th time. The success of the title was so colossal that it inspired the developers to break their tradition and make their very first sequel.

Although fans believe Hades 2 will be a direct sequel, it isn’t revealed where will the story stand chronologically. Some believe it will continue where the first game ended, but the lack of Zagreus in the reveals and trailers has made many doubt that. However, it could be possible that Hades 2 may be a prequel to the first game’s story.

Currently, there is no exact official date set for the release of the game. The official blog post revealed that the devs will reveal the platforms and the release date once the developing process will be “closer to when it’s complete”. And the fact that the development of the game began only in 2021, there could be a lot remaining till the game is ready to be shipped.

Hades 2 will feature a brand new protagonist, Melinoë. She is an immortal princess and the daughter of the God of Hell, Hades. In the reveal trailers and teasers, Melinoë was shown possessing a certain set of skills that differs from the protagonist of the first game and her brother, Zagreus. Talking about the prince of the underworld, none of the promotional material so far has anything related to Zagreus, making the fans brew wild theories about the game’s position in the timeline.

It has been made very clear that players don’t have to have any idea about the first game or Greek mythology to understand the story. Melinoë will unfold her story on her own, just like the fresh set of gods that will make their debut. So far, it has been shown that the new pantheon will consist of Nemesis, Apollo, and more. Here are some of the potential new entries

The Story of Hades 2 will have different stakes, compared to the first game. This time, instead of fighting with your father, you have to save him from his father, the malicious Titan, Cronus. Quite the “turn tables”. This time gameplay loop is defined by Cronus’s time powers, so each time you complete the dungeon, he may reverse everything using his powers.
