GTA V cemented its status as one of the biggest games of all time. Anybody who is into gaming is surely familiar with the name. We can credit the popularity to previous entries, like GTA Vice City and San Andreas. However, GTA V took things to an entirely different level.

The game was released in 2013. And 10 years later, it continues to make waves. The Rockstar Games fan favourite series is going strong. The very first GTA game debuted in 1997. Since then, there has a total 16 games! Fans continue to debate about which is the best GTA game. GTA V Keeps the money coming

To say that GTA V is a massive success is an understatement. Rockstar games invested a whopping $265 million, which includes production and all costs associated with the release. And it was definitely worth it. The game contains incredibly memorable moments. Fans remember the game for missions like robbing a bank in Paleto bay, Trevor blowing up the O’Neal brothers’ house, robbing a jewellery store, raiding the FBI building, and so on. The multiplayer mode, which is a favorite feature, allows players to do missions and drive customized vehicles with friends! Fans love it. But how successful was the game for the franchise?

As per reports, the game broke a sales record by crossing 185 million units sold, taking the franchise sales to 405 million! If this isn’t enough, the GTA franchise’s revenue since the release of GTA V is said to be $8.4 billion!

The franchise was massive even before GTA V. And the numbers are impressive, to say the least. But how does it compare to previous entries in the franchise?

How does GTA V compare to the rest of the franchise?

The monumental success of the game cannot be overstated. The previous mainline entry in the franchise, GTA IV, does not come anywhere close to the heights of its successor. In August 2022, the total sales of GTA V stood at 170 million. The second entry was GTA San Andreas with 27.5 million. As of 2021 January, GTA IV had sold 28 million copies. Meanwhile, its successor had crossed 135 million.

With the ever-growing franchise getting stronger with time, fans can certainly expect big things from the next mainline entry, GTA VI.
