Godfall is an action RPG developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox. The game will make its way to PS5 and PC later this year but no specific dates were mentioned.

Godfall – the major highlight

Godfall is set in a fantasy world where players don the character of a master knight. The setting in itself has 4 realms; Earth, Water, Fire, and Spirit. The main objective of the game is to defeat the dark forces to stop the apocalyptic event in motion.

While showcasing the game, during the event, it was mentioned that it is still a work-in-progress. The final draft of the game could be slightly different from what we saw. However, drastic changes aren’t possible, and there could be just some minor tweaks.

The looter-slasher, as the game is termed, is a mixture of many things. For starters, the game has mystical elements and some of the best combat we have seen in recent times.

The game is more than all that catches the eye. You get five different weapon classes and the footage aired on the event focused mainly on just two; dual blades and long swords. Dual blades are the fastest weaponry you can own and can deliver some heavy damage if you master them. On the other hand, long swords are more for those who do not strike quick but deliver with impact.

These were far from the biggest combat highlight. While playing Godfall, your shield is probably your best friend in a bout. Not only does it give you cover, but you can also throw the shield or charge it to attack multiple enemies at once. There are also different sets of finishers for all weapons that you could try out.

In conclusion, the game could be a masterpiece, if delivered right. Everything about it feels promising and if the delivery part comes outright, this could be a potential game of the year nominee.

Making best use of DualSense

CEO of Counter Plays, Keith Lee, had much to explain about the game in the PlayStation blog. Godfall will use the PS5 Dual Sense controller to its advantage.

“Godfall takes advantage of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller’s novel mechanics to produce a kinesthetic, tactile combat experience that’s as gratifying in your hands as it is on the screen.”

They have achieved this by simulating the haptic feedback of the controller to a variety of surfaces and textures. The realm you’d be fighting in will differentiate the haptics giving you the exact feel you should be getting.

The adaptive triggers will also play a big role to give a real sense of what the in-game character does. Differences while using different weapon classes in combat will also be evident.
