Sony Santa Monica Studios, best known for their popular franchise God of War, recently hinted at developing a new sci-fi game. The new game would look to overhaul the studio entirely. Santa Monica, part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is one of the biggest game developers of PlayStation gaming consoles and has many industry-defining games under its belt. In 2018, Santa Monica Studiosā€™ director Cory Barlog took the sidelines and passed over much of his responsibilities to Eric Williams, as the former was reported to have a number of new projects in line. In a recent YouTube podcast with Mike Bithell, Santa Monica writer Alanah Pearce slipped some potentially game-changing revelations.

Santa Monica hints at a new sci-fi setup with new IP

Rumors have been floating in the air for years that Santa Monica, the team behind the super-immersive PlayStation-based franchise God of War, is working towards developing a new game that may be set in deep space or in a similar science fiction world.

The incredible popularity of GoW has many fans believe that SIE Santa Monica is unlikely to be parting with their most popular game series, especially with recent speculations about a newĀ God of WarĀ being in development stages.

Allegedly developing a new game in a completely new setting, Pearce hinted at some new intellectual property (IP) being fiddled with as Santa Monica looks to drop a new game soon that is stark opposite to theĀ God of War universe. The ā€œunspecified sci-fi franchiseā€ has the fans reeling as speculations about something similar have teased them for years since Barlog went into hibernation in 2018.

Reality or mere speculations without trials?

In theĀ Play, Watch, ListenĀ podcast, Pearce seemingly admitted for the first time that her role in Santa Monica Studios extends beyond simply being a ā€œwriterā€. Fans are also quick to debate if Barlog is to be involved heavily with the new sci-fi franchise, with him admittedly being a MarvelĀ fan.

Would you like to see Santa Monica make good on their promise with a new sci-fi game or would you be happy as it is withĀ GoW?
