The Gamescom is like a trade fair held annually in Germany. All major video gaming companies and organizations attend the event to showcase their best titles. The event is a major one for gamers as tons of new information is revealed to the fans about upcoming games and also about new updates to already released titles.

However, the event’s producer and host of Gamescom Opening Night Live, Geoff Keighley, has already given away what to expect from this year’s event. He said Gamescom 2023 will be focused on announcing mostly updates for already released titles.

This means that Gamescom 2023 may not have a lot to offer when it comes to information on upcoming titles. Considering the significance of the event, fans will surely find the news to be disheartening.

This year’s ONL is less about announcing brand new projects, and more about giving fans updates on some of the biggest games due out over the next year,” said Keighley. Going by Keighley’s revelation, news about updates for games like Black Myth: Wukong and Alan Wake 2 may be shared at the event.

Why is Gamescom so important to gamers?

The news should be even harder to digest, given the fact that last year Gamescom announced 35 new games. Keighley also mentioned that the logistical challenges of hosting Gamescom are significantly higher because of the event happening in Germany. Last year’s Gamescom Expo was also the first in-person event since 2019 and fans gathered in flocks to experience the event for themselves after the long break.

Even before I was involved in ONL, I loved coming to Gamescom because it has such a focus on the players and community,” said Keighley. He thinks even though Gamescom is his only European event, fans from all over the world are always excited about the event because of the secrets it reveals.
