Gaming Fans Mock Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Despite Receiving a Prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award

The beginning of the new year saw a monumental shift in the gaming industry with Xbox taking over Activision, thanks to Microsoft. However, their glory is set to amplify much more. Earlier today, news of Xbox Game Studios’ head Phil Spencer receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th annual D.I.C.E. Awards later this month sent the gaming universe into a tizzy.

After crushing its competitors with a massive deal involving the Call of Duty publisher, Xbox will now see yet another moment of pride. It’s a huge achievement for Phil Spencer, without any doubt.

Fans seem unimpressed with the Xbox chief getting a Lifetime Achievement award

The big announcement came from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), who revealed Spencer, CEO Microsoft Gaming, will receive the prestigious honor.

Phil Spencer was named as the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Gaming in January 2022. He has an experience of more than three decades working in technology and entertainment sector. In addition, he also led multiple global businesses and highly creative teams under him.

His journey at Microsoft began in 1988, as an intern. Since then, he has held numerous roles in the company, including positions of Executive Vice President, Head of Xbox, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Studios, and General Manager of Microsoft Game Studios.

In a way, Phil Spencer deserves to get such a prestigious honor at the 25th DICE Awards. However, more than the news of Phil getting the award, another interesting thing to note is that the person who will present him the honor is Bethesda’s Todd Howard. The latter contributed immensely towards the success of Xbox.

As soon as the news broke out on the social media, fans wasted little time in expressing their opinions and thoughts. While some of the users were glad to see Phil getting the award, most of them took a jab at him. They even mentioned that he didn’t do anything extraordinary to get such recognition.

The 25th DICE Awards event will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas on February 24, 2022. IGN will live stream it as well.
