In his early days as a developer, Gibson worked at Imagine Software. The studio started working on Bandersnatch, an ambitious mega-game. The development team, including Gibson, had high hopes for this game. They were designing it to push the boundaries of hardware at that time. However, Imagine Software went bankrupt before the game had been released.
