This year’s Gamescom is a raging success so far. Despite a few hiccups like gatecrashing on the opening night, the event is going on as planned. Gamescom 2023 is revealing information on a ton of new titles as well as updates for released titles, and fans believe the next few months are going to be incredible for gamers.
Despite being a relatively new event, Gamescom 2023 is proving yet again why it’s such a big deal among fans. With E3 falling off the radar in recent times, Gamescom head Christian Baur believes there are multiple reasons why the German event has managed to stay afloat.

Geoff Keighley, the event’s host of Gamescom 2023, had previously mentioned that a lot of new games won’t be the main attraction for this year’s edition. Yet, the news we’ve received so far is pretty amazing for any video game enthusiast. While Gamescom is making the headlines, E3 has stayed behind a thick veil.
Interview: Gamescom boss Christian Baur explains how Gamescom is thriving in a post-E3 world.
“We have to have our own strategy, our own vision, our own starting point, regardless of E3 or Summer Game Fest. Gamescom is Gamescom, and Gamescom is big"https://t.co/zC8SwGNzwb pic.twitter.com/rTAMs9OGNc

E3 used to be one of the biggest names in the gaming industry, but changes like digital showcases and marketing directly to consumers have caused the event to fall out of its previous importance. In a recent interview, Baur explained how Gamescom 2023 managed to overcome multiple challenges to ensure the event was held with all its glory.
Gamescom head explains the strategies to make the event a success in contrast to E3
In the interview with VGC, Baur mentions that going digital is a big part of Gamescom 2023. On the event floor, there are fewer event booths compared to last year. However, there are many other stations that have a lot of video and streaming equipment. Baur has explained that this comes with the focus on creating content at the event and then reaching out to more fans across the globe. This, he says, helps the event to attract a lot more viewers.

Baur also seems to be concerned about the future, with E3’s being halted from this year. Baur believes that E3’s schedule only two months before Gamescom helped with the latter’s logistics.
But Baur thinks Gamescom 2023’s shift to go digital has created new opportunities for the event which E3 failed to make the best of. “E3 was a media-focused, behind closed doors event. They experimented with having normal visitors coming to the show but it never really took off“, said Baur. However, Baur also said that Gamescom will not be dependent on E3 and the German event has its own roadmap for the years to come.
