Remakes and remasters have become the norm in the gaming industry nowadays. Pretty much every major publisher is bringing its big, successful titles to a new generation of systems. Fans might be aware that these come in a number of categories; some are called remasters, and some are called remakes. And some classy companies just give the games a new name, like Metal Gear Solid Delta for the remake of MGS3.

What of the developers, though? Who do gamers consider the best for developing remakes? Metal Gear Solid Delta was always thought to be in development at Bluepoint Games, but it turned out to be at Virtuous Studios. Who’s better at it, though?

It is a very thoughtful question, and it can never have a straightforward answer. The only things players can talk about while discussing this question are the best remakes that they have ever seen or played. As said before, there’s no shortage of remakes being released in gaming. And there’s no shortage of upcoming remakes, either.

Publishers have two ways to do things when it comes to a remake: they either develop it in-house, like Capcom does for Resident Evil games. Or they can give it to a different studio altogether. The most recent example of such a deal is Konami’s decision to task Virtuous and Bloober Team to develop remakes of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Silent Hill 2, respectively. Everyone has already seen how well Capcom does it. It has yet to be seen how these two studios do it.

Big platform holders indulge in remakes and remasters too. Nintendo tasked retro studios with working on the impressive Metroid Prime Remastered. And Sony, on the other hand, has its own studio for remakes, Bluepoint. They are the masters of remaking games, from games like Shadow the Colossus to the excellent Demon Souls. Bluepoint has mastered the art of understanding a game and its strengths and bringing them to a new generation in a beautiful new package.

There have been duds from Sony too. Let’s not forget the pointless Last of Us Part 1. A game that was inexplicably sold for $70 despite offering no improvements other than a visual upgrade. The upgrade was significant, but if fans are to be believed, it nowhere near justified that price tag. And let’s not forget that awful PC port.

If one has to choose the best of them all, it must be Bluepoint and Capcom. They have shown how they don’t just apply a new coat of paint to older games; they actually put in the effort to make them better.

Fans cannot stop discussing various remakes and remasters and their developers.

Fans of Resetera have been quite vocal about the remakes and their developers. In a recent discussion, they even made their preferences heard, with many speaking out about the Remake developers they have appreciated all this while.

No one can be more to the point than MolotovMan1263. They simply state the name and drop the mic.

“Bluepoint”

Lobster Roll went ahead and stated their disappointment with Square Enix’s treatment of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

“Don’t trust S-E. After VII, I’m extremely nervous about the IX and Tactics rumors. Excited as hell because of the potential, but nervous regardless.”

One fan said, “Do trust Capcom. RE4R was such a phenomenal remake that captured the spirit of the original while making something wholly unique out of the remake to the point where they are individual all-time classic games.”

LKR took a completely different lane and represented Game Freak as one of the best remake developers for a time.

“Game Freak remakes were near perfection for many years. BDSP wasn’t exceptional but iirc they contracted that out to someone else,” said the fan.

Authentic M went straight for the kill and announced Capcom as the king of remakes. There might be some sense to it too.

“Capcom is the undisputed king of remakes and has been for over two decades. I don’t see this changing anytime soon.”
