There’s no doubt about the fact that the gaming community has been divided ever since Xbox maker Microsoft announced its proposed acquisition of Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard. While one section supports this move without having any major problem, others don’t think so.

The latter sentiment was recently witnessed on social media when most of the fans expressed their disappointment with Microsoft’s strategy to buy 3rd publishers like Activision. According to them, that’s not a good approach to popularize the Xbox platform.
Fans think the Xbox maker has made a wrong decision and lacks creativity to make great gaming IPs on its own
Destin Legarie, who’s a video game content strategist at media outlet IGN, recently shared a tweet on his account. He tried to explain how Microsoft’s decision to acquire Activision is somewhat justified in its own manner.
“Why is Xbox buying Activision? Because Sony kicked their ass for years and fans hammered them for not having games. So now they’ve adjusted their business strategy, will keep multi-platform releases when it makes sense and people still say it’s not good enough,” read the tweet from Destin.

Basically, he tried to convey that due to Sony and past fan reactions, calling them out for not having good IPs, the Xbox maker has taken this new route. However, social media users didn’t seem to agree on this point.

According to most of the fans, Microsoft‘s decision to buy out third-party publishers is not right. In fact, they think that the company won’t even keep a franchise like Call of Duty on multiple platforms after the deal is finished. They believe that it will become Xbox exclusive, thus making no difference at all compared to Sony.
“Management and vision in terms of game creation at this company is abysmal,” wrote one frustrated user. Have a look at some of the most critical reactions from social media:
Well, at least we know that Microsoft’s only way to compete was by buying out already successful and established 3rd party publishers instead of creating content from the ground up like their competitors. Management and vision in terms of game creation at this company is abysmal.

But why can't they create new exciting high quality gaming experiences with the teams they have ?
Why must they keep buying huge publishers to do all the work for them ?

It’s not. Make your platform appealing with new ips. Buying popular 3rd party games ain’t it.

How the hell can you say that when we already have Bethesda as an example of what Microsoft is doing and will do with its acquisitions? I'm not against them putting their purchased IPs as exclusive, they're buying it for that, but saying they won't do it is ridiculous.

So what you’re saying is that their only way to compete is by being.. anticompetitive by making a massive *multiplatform* publisher, exclusive?
Xbox does need to compete, they do need to do better, but buying out all the competition isn’t right. They need to grow their studios.
