Ever since the announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI back in 2018, fans have been waiting to see what the game will bring. However, 5 years later, there is no update on the title besides the initial teaser, which doesn’t show much. With just a teaser released 5 years ago, players found themselves lost in anticipation of the game. However, Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda has changed the course of the company.
Due to the acquisition, many games from acquired companies like ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, are now planned to be released as an Xbox and PC exclusive title. An FTC vs. Microsoft Case Document gave fans a time window as to when they can expect The Elder Scrolls VI to launch. Fans have been waiting for any news on the title and what they got to know, disheartened most of them.

The information regarding The Elder Scrolls VI’s release and platform exclusivity came to light during the FTC vs. Microsoft case over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This case likely pertains to discussions about competition and exclusivity in the gaming industry. While the document didn’t give an exact date on when the game will be released, it does show that the game will be ready by 2026. Bethesda Softworks had previously made a comment stating that they are pouring all their resources into Starfield and will only begin to work on The Elder Scrolls VI after launching the former.

One significant revelation from the document was the one about the game being a Microsoft exclusive. This means players will get to enjoy the upcoming title on the PC or Xbox but not on the PS5. This works with the expectations that Microsoft would make Bethesda’s games exclusive to their ecosystem.

In a statement regarding exclusivity attributed to Xbox head Phil Spencer, he emphasized the importance of delivering the complete gaming experience on Xbox. Spencer’s statement suggests that The Elder Scrolls VI will be fully optimized for Xbox. And this is a key factor in its exclusivity to the platform. This announcement follows a previous revelation in the same FTC v. Microsoft case that the next three ZeniMax games, including Starfield, Redfall, and The Elder Scrolls VI, would be exclusive to Microsoft platforms. Microsoft did not officially confirm this exclusivity strategy until now.
Fans have to play the waiting game
While this news barely discloses anything about the game besides platforms and release dates, players are expected to wait before they receive any more information on the same. With Starfield’s successful launch for the PC and Xbox, it looks like Bethesda will finally have time to focus on The Elder Scrolls VI. The key takeaway from the document was the reveal of the release year, which is still around 3 years away.
