According to VGC, there have been several reports coming about the PlayStation users not being able to run some of the classic games. And the situation is related to the PS Vita and PS3.

For example, the PS1 original version of Chrono Cross now shows an expiration date from decades ago. As a result of this, it no longer boots after being downloaded. Interestingly, this exact issue was also seen in the new Chrono Cross remaster on the latest generation of PlayStation devices.

It’s not the only game, however, that is annoying the users. A similar situation of the decades-old expiration date is preventing gameplay of other classics as well, like Final Fantasy VI, Run Factory: Oceans and Unit 13. Moreover, one fan even claimed that the complete PlayStation Vita library of the old games is now inaccessible.

Sony is yet to respond officially on this issue, as of this writing.

However, this situation has, for sure, highlighted one fact, maintaining the catalog for decades-old titles is not easy. This might be the reason why PlayStation games from the past are becoming difficult to run with every new year.
