While initially slated for a September release on PC, the devs moved the date to early August to avoid a clash with other major titles releasing at that time. However, technical reasons have made it necessary to fix September 6 as the release date for PS5. While a date for the Xbox launch is yet not confirmed, fans think a date may be announced soon.
Early access characters will not carry over in the full-release
With the early access for Baldur’s Gate 3 available for players for a considerable amount of time, many wondered if their characters could be playable when the game releases on 3rd August. The question is valid as many other game devs have made characters transition seamlessly into full releases. However, that may not be the case for Baldur’s Gate 3.
The devs have announced that after the full launch of the title, players will have to start off from the very beginning. So in case someone is thinking of jumping in on the early access days prior to the full release date to get some extra miles, that may not be a good idea after all with saves from the early access not amounting to anything ultimately.
The ultimate Dungeons & Dragons sandbox?
Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t be a full-fledged CRPG. Instead, it will be more focused on replicating the true experience of Dungeons & Dragons. Adopting the 5th Edition Rule, Larion Studios aims to shift from its previous Divinity Original Sin franchise in terms of designing RPGs. Using this rule, Baldur’s Gate 3 will offer a turn-based combat system instead of real-time gameplay with pausing options. This will mark a significant departure from the studios’ previous titles.
Dice rolls will be an essential aspect
Dice rolls will play a significant role in Baldur’s Gate 3. You need to understand how dice rolls can make an impact on combat such as attack rolls or crucial hits and misses. Players can also avail situational bonuses or penalties, making use of the game’s advantage and disadvantage mechanics. Exploiting advantageous conditions can prove to be immensely helpful, while disadvantages can put you in a soup. This unpredictability of the gameplay can surprise players who need to make the most of dice rolls.
Character customization and origin stories
The Origin system will likely be the standout feature in Baldur’s Gate 3. Each of the six starting characters has a different backstory and comes from different races. Based on the background of the characters, the game’s narrative is likely to change as well. This is prospected to change the overall storytelling as well.
With so many options to choose from, diverse and engaging gameplay is almost warranted. Despite so many options being available, players can also choose to customize their characters entirely. Creating your own avatars and characters is a prominent feature of the game.
Mind flayer tadpole mechanic
A mind-flayer tadpole acquired at the start of the game becomes a defining theme in Baldur’s Gate 3. This mind-flaying tadpole will invade the characters’ brains at the very beginning of the game. Removing the tadpole before it becomes a fully matured mind-flayer will be the main goal for players. This parasite will undoubtedly create a new dynamic in the game, and players need to resist the urge to use its abilities as they seek a cure.
The vast cities of Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces a vast interconnected map showing off the intricate details of the city of Baldur’s Gate. This unprecedented attention to detail in the City also marks a shift from the previous Baldu’r Gate titles where the City was not explored fully by the devs. As a step to follow up on their words for an immersive urban environment, Larian Studios has expanded the City beyond its original plans. Players can explore and interact with characters from this sprawling metropolis.
Skill trees
The player’s beloved multi-classing system from Dungeons & Dragons titles is also maintained in Baldur’s Gate 3. This feature will allow players to merge two different classes to create unique characters and develop new skills. By eliminating ability score prerequisites, Baldur’s Gate 3 offers players greater flexibility with character development. The depth and complexity of characters are only enhanced thanks to the mind-flaying tadpole mechanics influencing the skill tree.
Seemingly endless play-time
Keeping parity with previous Larian titles, Baldur’s Gate 3 will also boast a colossal playtime. The time needed to complete the entire game is estimated to be between 75 and 100 hours. This will obviously be an adventure on its own. However, if you like to inspect every nook and cranny in a game, you may find yourself exploring its maps for well over 200 hours. This extensive gameplay will keep players engaged for hours trying to master the mechanics of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Multiplayer co-op mode
Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces a multiplayer co-op mode for you to progress the game along with some friends and get some help along the way. Along with online co-op options, a split-screen multiplayer feature will absolutely find some old-school gamers grinning. However, a “finders keepers” rule on in-game loots may cause a few debates which you need to handle cordially if you want to conquer the game as a team.
