Alan Wake 2 announcement already sent the fandom into a state of frenzy. Furthermore, fans are losing their cool over the long return and are ready to descend into the sequel’s madness this fall. The sequel aims to go all in on survival horror in a deeper way than the original 2010 game.
Interestingly, the newest trailer for Alan Wake II takes place from the perspective of FBI agent Saga Anderson. Moreover, the director Sam Lake confirms the FBI agent to be the game’s co-protagonist; he further mentions the inclusion of a second playable character as an important part of the studio’s growth.

- Release Date, Platforms, and Concept Art
The Alan Wake sequel is set to release on October 17, 2023. The game will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Remedy has already confirmed that the game is ready for PC launch via the Epic Games Store. Unfortunately, there’s no official confirmation of the sequel to release on Nintendo Switch.
During the Alan Wake anniversary celebration video, Sam Lake was joined by Ilkka Villi and Matthew Porretta. Matthew Porretta is famous for his voice actor role and the physicality of the protagonist. The trio talked a lot about the sequel and the upcoming change in concept art.
Not to mention, Porretta also teased Alan’s story, receiving more spotlight and players bonding more with the protagonist. He added, “In this game it’s like you’re really seeing who Alan Wake is. You’re getting an idea of who he is personally. So you’re getting more emotion from him.”
- Trailer and Gameplay
Remedy was expected to showcase the gameplay of the much-awaited sequel back in the Summer of 2022; however, the reveal was postponed to-be-determined date. The reason for the delay as per developers was to keep focusing on the development of a masterpiece rather than shift resources towards a polished demo.
The creative director Sam Lake said, ” To create a proper, polished demo, or a trailer takes a lot of effort, and it’s several months of work that could take away from development.” He further added, “We don’t want to take the team away from that focus, so we’re going to keep going and making a great game experience, and unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for a demo and trailer.”
The Alan Wake 2 trailer is just a short teaser of the upcoming horror sequel. Through the trailer, players can spot a grim-looking crime scene in a forest, a rainy shot of New York City, and the (fictional) subway stop of Caldera Street & Bright Falls. Lastly, users can also spot the protagonist’s terrified and pale-blooded face.
- Story
Remedy Entertainment hasn’t spilled any tea about Alan Wake’s sequel story and gameplay. Regardless, fans are interested to know more about ‘Remedy’s first survival horror game’. Interestingly, the studio considers the original as an action game with few horror elements.

At the end of the original story, Alan gets trapped in a world known as the “Dark Place” to free his wife. In the DLC episodes, Alan learns more about ‘Dark Place’ and its logic. Furthermore, he frees himself by confronting a version of himself called Irrational Alan.
Sam Lake once mentioned David Lynch’s famous speech and called Alan Wake as the ‘Project Big Fish’. He said, “Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper. Alan Wake 2 is our big fish. We are diving deeper than ever, into an ocean of darkness.”
