Mrwhosetheboss buys all the Nintendo home consoles released in history!

Arun Rupesh Maini, better known as Mrwhosetheboss, is a technology-related content creator and always comes up with the most interesting aspects when it comes to the latest gadgets. However, he’s also a gaming lover, especially of Nintendo devices. Thus, the YouTuber decided to buy all of the Nintendo consoles released in history.

Starting with the NES, he revealed how it came into existence in 1983. The YouTuber mentioned that it arrived at a very unfortunate time. The surge of too many home gaming consoles made it problematic for consumers to make the right choice.

To solve this problem in a smart manner, Nintendo made NES with a clever design and shipped two controllers for the purpose of indoor, family gaming experience, as opposed to arcade machines. Mrwhosetheboss even showed the 80s console functioning with a TV from that same era. He mentioned that the NES ended up selling 61.9 million units worldwide.

Moving further, Nintendo came up with the SNES in 1990; it was a super-sized version of its predecessor. Its controller came up with two extra face buttons as well. This home console was better in terms of all aspects compared to the NES. However, it couldn’t beat the first device and sold 49 million units.

The journey through the years

In 1996, to give competition to Sony’s PS platform, Nintendo came up with the classic N64. Its controller had a cool-looking analog stick, which was invented by an employee of Nintendo.

Named after its 64-Bit processor, this device was among the most powerful consoles in the world at that time. Despite being great, though, this offering from the Mario maker only sold 32.9 million units globally. One of the major reasons for its underperformance was also the growing popularity of the first PlayStation.

To beat Sony, Nintendo then launched the GameCube, giving the vibe of a mini super computer. It came up with a great horsepower to provide solid 3D gaming experience. Still, it wasn’t a good replacement for its predecessor, while managing to sell only 21.75 million units.

After the disastrous performance of the previous product, Nintendo realized they didn’t need to compete with the likes of PlayStation or Xbox. All they needed was to have a console to give a fun experience to the gamers. That’s when the Wii was released in 2006. It had a controller that came with a case as well, and looked more like a TV remote.

Maybe the formula of success for the Wii was that Nintendo bundled each unit with a free copy of the Wii Sports game. Eventually, this home console shattered everyone’s expectations, selling a whopping 102 million units.

The nightmare and the dream run after that!

In 2012, though, the Wii U‘s debut was met with lukewarm response. While trying to replicate its predecessor’s glory, Wii U failed badly. Yes, it had a way better GPU and fantastic specification in terms of horsepower but this wasn’t enough. Being a complete failure, it could only sell 13 million units.

At last, came the era of the Switch, which is currently the most popular handheld console in the world. It really made Nintendo forget the nightmarish run of the Wii U. The reason being its amazing performance combined with compelling games. Upon its launch in 2017, the device came up with a title like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
