An eventful year indeed, but not every event was as eventful as the previous one. We also had some major disappointing things happen in the world of tech and gaming. And today we would discuss the top five disappointments of 2022.
Microsoft x Activision is a no-go for 2022
Microsoft is doing everything in its power to acquire Activision Blizzard. There are numerous people opposing this deal and there are numerous Game Pass owners wanting it to happen. But for 2022, this deal would be a no-go, all thanks to FTC suing them.
We would have to see how long it takes for this deal to end. If in 2023 or 2024, as cases like these take their sweet time to conclude.
Release now patch later is still a thing in gaming
Some developers have a habit of releasing broken titles and patching them up later. Games that were released years ago such as Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky, were released two or three years ago and only got playable recently. And Kudos to CD Projekt RED and Hello Games for working so hard to make these games playable for their fans.
But many developers have taken this as a sign that they can do the same for their newer games. Games like Saints Row, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and The Callisto Protocol have been reported by numerous gamers and critics to have some major performance and visual glitches at launch.
Yes, all of them are getting fixed, but fans do not pay for games to play them a week later or even months later. They want them to be playable at launch.
The rise of $70 games
It started with CEOs of various companies supporting the increase in the price of video games to $70. They spoke in favor of this price tag and some even said that it would be a norm in the new generation of gaming.
And now we are at the point where even Microsoft has announced that their upcoming games would start costing $70.
Games shutting down and disappearing from storefronts
It is common in gaming for services and servers to shut down. This happened in 2022 too. Babylon’s Fall was so bad that Square Enix decided to mercy kill it pretty fast. Other than that, services like Google Stadia bid adieu to their fans and supporters. The worst part was that numerous Stadia exclusive games were gone with it.
And once again, it is proven that the exclusivity of games is not as good as fans think it is. It is a nightmare for preservation in gaming.
The mistreatment of artists and musicians in gaming
The gaming industry is not always known to mistreat its artists. Healthy relationships between artists and directors and musicians are usually very common thing in gaming. But sometimes something weird happens and fans have to witness some ugly disputes.
