Definitely, Covid has been a big setback for the entire gaming industry. This pandemic almost put a stop to the planet for the entire 2020 and 2021. As a result, many video game releases got paused for an uncertain period. Even in 2023, many video games are releasing, among which the announcement of a few came way before the pandemic. Therefore, it is certain to say that many enormous projects are already piled up for launch. 

Following the pandemic, the timeline of upcoming video games became very much disorganized. To give a perfect solution to that, here goes a list of the top ten games that are currently on hold by the developers.

Immortals of Aveum

Ascendant Studio’s Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter game, published by Electronic Arts. This game was first announced at The Game Awards 2022. Although previously it was scheduled for 20th of July, which was delayed to 22nd of August, but late is late, nonetheless.

However, finally, Immortals of Aveum will release this month on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox X/S Series. Ascendant previously spoke about making this game both fun and challenging for players. While asking about the delay, developers responded that they want the game to be more optimized, supporting more devices. 

Abandoned

Blue Box Game Studios’ Abandoned is an upcoming horror-themed survival game, which was previously announced to release in 2021. From futuristic gameplay mechanics to cinematic horror-themed experiences, developers brought much anticipation among the fans. However, this game will be released at a much later date than its previous one.

Abandoned brought many hints about Silent Hill and Hideo Kojima. But amid the controversy, the developers didn’t discuss much with the viewers. Even Kijima’s involvement wasn’t officially announced. Now all the speculations can only be answered with the game’s release.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is Rocksteady Studios’ upcoming online loot-based shooter game. It will be published by Warner Bros. Games. However, after their debut full-length game release, which was Batman: Arkham Knight, the team decided to take some more time to release their upcoming game following Justice League’s narrative.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was previously scheduled for 2022. But the developers postponed it for 2023. Furthermore, a new launch date was recently announced in April this year, which declared that Suicide Squad will release in 2024. 

Skull & Bones

Ubisoft’s upcoming action adventure-themed video game Skull and Bones has been postponed many times since its initial announcement in 2017 at Ubisoft Press Conference. Skull & Bones was postponed so many times that it also became a funny meme in the industry. Following the theme of naval piracy and warfare, Skull & Bones increased the anticipation of fans for a long. Although it was all set to release in March 2023, developers delayed it again. However, after numerous cancelations, this game will finally launch in 2024. Skull & Bones received a new creative director, which surely assured fans to get a one-of-a-kind experience.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time 

When Ubisoft first announced their plan to bring a remake of 2003’s popular game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, fans were extremely happy. However, after 2020’s initial announcement, developers almost went silent about the game. As a result, this remake was scheduled to release in 2022, but developers postponed it for an uncertain time.

After the popularity of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Prince of Persia is another fan favorite. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake might release in 2024 but official confirmation is still yet to receive. 

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2

Paradox Interactive’s Vampire: Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is an upcoming action-oriented RPG. A sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, which was released in 2004, this game was initially developed by Hardsuit Labs. However, publishers brought an anonymous developers’ team to proceed with the work.

Set in fictional 21st-century Seattle, this game will be a part of the World of Darkness franchise. However, the release date of the game is still unannounced. 

The Division: Heartland

The Division: Heartland is an upcoming third-person perspective-based shooter game, which will be free-to-play for gamers. This game is developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. Officially announced in 2021, The Division: Heartland was scheduled to release in 2022, which was postponed. Although developers announced to launch in March of 2023, that didn’t happen for some reasons. This third-person shooter game will most likely launch in 2024.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl

STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is an upcoming survival horror-themed FPS game, which is developed by GSC Game World, a Ukrainian developer’s team. This game was announced to launch in April of 2022 previously. However, developers cancelled the date due to unfortunate war-related circumstances in the country. With the developers volunteering to save their country against Russia, STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is currently postponed for an uncertain period.  

Pragmata

Capcom Entertainment’s upcoming game Pragmata will offer a mysterious and Death Stranding-inspired theme for the players. This game was originally scheduled for 2022 but developers recently announced that the game will launch at the end of 2023.

Starfield

Bethesda’s upcoming role-playing game Starfield was previously planned for launch in 2022. However, Bethesda decided to take some more time to improvise its outer space-themed gameplay. Despite many cancellations, Starfield Direct seemed to satisfy the wait for fans. This Xbox exclusive will launch on the 6th of September.
