The new Assassin’s Creed installment is just around the corner and fans are excited to experience everything that the upcoming giant promises to offer. Among a long list of additions it provides to the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Mirage brings life to the forgotten heritage of Baghdad. For historians, this city is also known as the ‘lost city’ but thanks to Ubisoft, the world is about to witness what the most advanced city in the early 9th century looked like!?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage sets during the onsets of the Abbasid Empire. The empire reached from modern-day Algeria to some extent of current India, making it the biggest region in the 9th century. Thus, recreating and bringing such an enormous heritage to the virtual world is a challenge in itself. However, the early glimpses of Mirage seem to be doing the appropriate justice to the legacy. Here’s everything you cannot miss to explore in the upcoming AC installment.

Recreating the world of Baghdad to any scale is one wild vision to implement. A major reason attributed to this implementation is the fact that the city wasn’t a center for one specific culture or practice. It was a blooming market of scientific discoveries that impacted technological evolution in the coming years. At the time Mirage takes place in the world of Baghdad, it was the center of the globe.?
Although the task of rebuilding such a heritage was an ultimate challenge, makers couldn’t find a perfect fit for the narrative for Valhalla’s prequel. Moreover, the developers wanted Assassin’s Creed Mirage to focus on details in this upcoming venture.?
So, to keep it detailed and engaging rather than just an expansion, Ubisoft decided to rebuild four major districts from the 9th-century hub.?
Abbasiyah?
Abbasiyah was the cultural hub of Baghdad. This is where scholars, philosophers, scientists, and astronomers gather and transmit knowledge from the entire Empire and beyond.?
Karkh
This district can be called the market district of Baghdad. Here travelers from empires like China and Spain came and made offerings and trades.?
Harbiyah
Harbiyah is parallel to the modern-day industrial hubs. It is a dense, grim part of the city where you’ll find the lowest-tier communities like slaves, orphans, and thieves struggling to survive.?
Round City
Finally, the biggest attraction of the lost city. The iconic Round City holds all the power and elite population of the empire. Historically, this place was known as Madinat As-Salam, which means the ‘city of peace.’ Behind the giant walls lies the breathtaking lush gardens, fountains, and of course the Caliphal Palace.?
The research and support that went behind?
The research team had begun its work in the initial phase of project development as there was a lot that needed to be uncovered. Unlike previous Assassin’s Creed games, almost nothing from the planned period had survived the modern day. Hence, all the implementation depended on strong research and archeological surveys.?

Guy Le Strange’s published research on Baghdad was one major inspiration for the developers. Also, descriptions by medical travelers and findings of the biggest archeological surveys were taken into consideration during the design. The team had experts like Dr. Glaire Anderson, a specialist in Islamic Art and history, and Dr. Raphael Wayland, Ubisoft’s Montreal Historian on board.?
