According to the recently updated PlayStation blog, Spider-Man 2 is going to support 40 fps as well, alongside 30 and 60 fps. This 40 fps mode is going to be ideal for all gamers because it will smooth the gameplay experience a lot more than 30 fps and also maintain the high graphical fidelity that we sometimes miss at 60 fps. Also, to play a game at 40 fps, graphical and hardware demands won’t be as high as they are to play it at 60 fps.

The conventional monitors have a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. In that case, 30 or 60 fps does the work, but at 40 fps, it won’t run smoothly as 60 is not divisible by 40. But in modern panels of 120 Hz, the math works perfectly, and 40 fps comes to be an optimized option for the games. Keeping in mind this generation’s needs, this 40 fps option has been added to Spider-Man 2.

Recently, Insomniac Game’s Tech Director Mike Fitzgerald stated: “We’ve really figured out how to deliver what we feel is the right Spider-Man picture and visuals, and we want to make sure every player is seeing that.”

This is not the only graphical update we got. Spider-Man 2 is going to support variable refresh rate (VRR) as well. That means the cinematics will be shown at 30 fps, and the rest of the game can be played at 30, 40, or 60 fps. You are going to get Taylormade smoothness across your whole gameplay. This feature is best utilized if you have a 120 Hz VRR display panel.

Along with these various kinds of framerate support, Spider-Man 2 also has ray tracing. In that regard, Insomniac doesn’t seem to bother about the negative impacts of raytracing. Here’s what Fitzgerald had to say about this: “We’ve really figured out how to deliver what we feel is the right Spider-Man picture and visuals, and we want to make sure every player is seeing that.”

Adding to that, in Spider-Man 2, we will encounter much more destructible interactivity with the environment compared to previous titles. The mechanized spider arms of Peter will now be available by default. Insomniac Games will be making the Black Symbiont Suit hypersensitive to sound, which can be felt through the DualSense technology of the PS5 controllers. Although the game will be mostly darker-themed,  there will be tons of humor and funny remarks throughout.
