While visually stunning games with poor storylines don’t sit well with gamers, there’s something still more detested by the community. Gamers feel absolutely heartbroken when potentially good games get canceled by the devs. Despite a plethora of games released every week, many fans haven’t gotten over scrapped projects.
The list includes some highly anticipated games from fan-loved franchises like Fallout as well as many indie titles. Here are 10 games that were scrapped before release, but definitely warrant reconsideration from the devs.
Fallout Online

Set in a dystopian future that mixed elements of competition and cooperation, Fallout Online had incredible potential. Fallout fans are still obsessed with the single-player offline settings of the games, and a chance to explore the post-apocalyptic world with friends would’ve been even more amazing.
Fallout Online was possibly scrapped for more legal reasons than anything else. While Bethesda was the main engine behind Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, the first two Fallout titles were developed by Interplay. Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls Online was all over the place, which failed to make any mark among the fans. The two developer studios couldn’t come to an agreement and Fallout Online remains in the shadows to this day.
Star Wars 1313
Star Wars 1313 was going to be a backstory for Boba Fett. Set in a rather shady part of Coruscant, the LucasArts game was expected to be dark, gritty, and filled with action. If Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was great fun, 1313 could’ve been something bigger.
With Disney taking over Lucasfilm, all LucasArts projects, including Star Wars 1313, were scrapped. From its initial looks, Star Wars 1313 seemed to capture Boba Fett’s mystique perfectly. The devs should definitely consider having another go at the game with another developer.
Mega Man Legends 3
Both Mega Man Legends and its successor were well-received by fans and critics alike. While the storyline was never the focal point of Mega Man titles, devs Capcom managed to make a story-focused spin-off with great combat and level design.
Capcom decided to go with 3DS over Mega Man Legends 3, breaking many fans’ hearts. The Mega Man titles have a great cast, but there hasn’t been a satisfactory ending to the franchise. The developers should definitely reconsider giving Mega Man and his friends a better send-off.
Mega Man Universe
The title could have been a great addition to the franchise, thanks to its concept. Mega Man’s maps are fairly popular among fans and creating maps themselves to challenge others would have been a decision that fans would have appreciated. However, Mega Man Universe was canceled only a year into development.
Many community members think that Capcom should’ve gone ahead with their plans. Super Mario Maker worked on a similar idea, which was released four years later and garnered much critical acclaim in the industry.
Donkey Kong Racing
As wild as canceling a Donkey Kong title might seem, Rare did make the decision. The game was poised to introduce new features and mechanics to racing games.
Initially planned as a sequel to Diddy King Racing, a sour relationship between Nintendo and Rare resulted in a potentially great game getting scrapped. After Rare was forced to remove all Nintendo characters from its titles, the game wasn’t updated with Rare’s own characters.
StarCraft: Ghost
StarCraft: Ghost ditched the previous StarCraft focus on large-scale battles across the universe to focus more on the main protagonist, Terra Nova. Trained as a “Ghost” agent, Nova has access to an array of weapons that she can use with ease. Blizzard should really consider reviving the game, which was announced for 2022 but was scrapped in 2014.
Titan
Titan was a massive online shooter game that was in the works even before Overwatch. While no footage was ever released, the concept art looked stunning. Mixing combat and casual exploration, Titan could have been an amazing title.
Blizzard put seven years into the development of Titan before shifting focus to Overwatch. There’s no question about the brilliance of Overwatch, but an MMO like Titan would still be great.

Super Kid Icarus
An intelligent new take on 2D platformers, Kid Icarus sought to overhaul the genre. By killing enemies, you can get Hearts, the in-game currency. However, you need to be strategic about how you take down enemies instead of showing up guns blazing.
The marvelous experience offered by Kid Icarus could have been taken further with Super Kid Icarus. However, the title announced for the SNES console never saw the light of day.
Silent Hills
Considering how great the demo of the game looked, one can only imagine what Konami could’ve done with the whole game. Combining surrealism with intense level design, it seemed like a very promising title. The demo had a hallway that looked like it came straight out of a nightmare, which turned a few heads.
The game was supposed to boast acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro as one of the directors. The little glimpse the community received from the demo itself warrants a revival of the project.
Kirby’s Adventure
Promised as a sequel to the original Kirby title, Kirby’s Adventure looked to enhance Kirby’s powers. While previously Kirby had to eat enemies to gain powers, Kirby Adventures made it possible for Kirby to turn enemies into friends. No doubt, Kirby’s exploits would become infinitely more fun with help from friends.

Kirby’s Adventure could have been the perfect activity for families, that HAL Laboratory shied away from eventually. The easy-to-play title should definitely make a return as a full game.
