Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action-adventure game based on the magical world of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Porter universe. So far the reveals have confirmed that the game will have a completely original story that is not written in the books. Even the tagline “Live the Unwritten” hints at this.
Sony originally revealed the game on September 16, 2020. But it was leaked way back in 2018. The initial release date was 2021, but it was delayed two times. First, it got pushed back to 2022, then it was delayed again to 2023. According to the devs, the game was put in the developing phase twice to ensure the players will get the best experience possible.

World
So far, the teasers, trailers, leaks, and rumors have given the community adequate information to draw the world of the game into their minds. The setting of the game will be an open world, with magical beast mounts and brooms as a means of travel. The Overworld map will be filled with side content, much like the acclaimed open-world RPG Witcher 3. Completing these objectives will help the player learn a new spell or gain items that would make them stronger.
Main character and plot
The playable main character will be completely customizable and, according to the official website of the game, the time period of the story is the 1800s. The description on the website says, “Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic.”
Other Characters
Though the game is not based on the story from the books, many familiar faces will be making their appearances in the game. These include Nearly Headless Nick and a mysterious ‘Weasley’. Not much is known about this certain Weasley, except in the latest trailer it was confirmed that there is a professor character in the school who belongs to the beloved family line of the Weasley.

The Gameplay
The gameplay is expected to be heavily based on spell casting, expiration, learning new skills from the school, and combating monsters and other enemy wizards on the open world map. According to the speculations, it is expected that the game would present the players with the choice of either following the path of the hero or embracing the dark side and becoming a dark wizard or a witch. However, this feature is completely speculative and there have been no official confirmations about this.
