Nintendo seems to be competing with itself at the moment, thanks to the immense success in both the gaming and console segments. Talking about the latter, then the Switch is really swaying the players across the globe right now with its growing appeal. However, it’s still behind one of the most celebrated consoles released by Nintendo in the past.
The Switch is without a doubt a solid product offering amazing titles in a portable format. Since its debut in 2017, the hardware has only witnessed an increasing craze among Nintendo lovers. Still, it’s lagging behind the greatness of the Nintendo DS, the classic console from nearly two decades ago.

But it won’t take long for the Switch to overtake the DS when it comes to the game of sales between the two. At least, that’s what the latest figures are suggesting.
Here’s why Nintendo Switch will eventually overtake the DS in lifetime sales
As reported by VGChartz, recently collected numbers suggest that the overall gap between the two consoles is not much right now. In fact, it has decreased a lot in the past few months.
Currently, the DS is the highest selling Nintendo device. It has had a lifetime sales of 154.02 million units since its original release in 2004. On the other hand, the Switch has sold around 107.36 million units so far since its 2017 launch. Overall, the main difference is nearly 46.65 million units between both these heavily popular consoles.
But there are certain factors that might help Nintendo Switch in reducing this gap even further.
Firstly, the apex reason to believe that Switch will overtake the DS is the fact that the former is still selling worldwide. On other hand, the DS is not available for sale anymore.

Secondly, the Switch has a vast catalog of amazing games, plus more fresh titles are coming soon for the handheld device. It implies that more new gamers will show an interest in having the product in order to enjoy the upcoming releases.
Another reason for Nintendo Switch to become the biggest selling console is its growing popularity. It has managed to sustain a large fanbase despite tough competition from rivals like PlayStation and the Xbox.

Lastly, the biggest reason why the Switch may eventually beat the DS is the fact that there’s still time for Nintendo to introduce a successor to the Switch. Simply put, the latter has got extra space to spread its legs in even more regions across the globe. And ultimately, it might achieve the impossible-looking objective at the moment.
