The game is five years behind its original release schedule. This delay is due to the separation between Defiant Studios and CI games. After separation, CI Games tasked its newly-formed branch Hexworks for the development. The game was re-revealed in Gamescom 2022 followed by a showcase trailer in March this year.
Another shocking reveal also made at Gamescom 2022 was this game would not be a sequel to the 2014 title. Although being very late to the launch, the developers have not cut any corners in developing this game.
