Final Fantasy XVI is just around the corner, and fans eagerly await this game’s arrival. As many already know, this latest installment will set a new milestone for this series. It features a bunch of new gameplay mechanics, and a brand-new combat system altogether.

But aside from these big and pretty evident changes, it appears Square Enix’s masterpiece will feature one more very special thing. And no, that is not the ability to ride chocobos.

Years ago, when Rockstar Games launched the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, the trailer was accompanied by a theme. That musical theme became the main theme of that game, and people recognised that game from its music. And it became pretty much a trademark of that game too. Similar things happened to games like GTA San Andreas and GTA 4. Music plays an important part in games, indeed.

Although it looks like the developers of Final Fantasy XVI had something else in mind altogether. Rather than giving this game a centralised main theme, they have decided to give every character their own unique theme. This makes sure that the game will have some kind of dynamic music playing in the background at all times, which sure sounds exciting.

Masayoshi Soken, the game’s composer, told Game Informer, “There isn’t really one song that you can call the main theme because Final Fantasy XVI is a game about all of these very important and very standout characters, as well as their Eikons, and the relationship between the Eikons and the characters and their dominants. We view these all as very, very important, and we didn’t want to single out just one; we wanted to make them all […] equal in importance.”

It appears the creators of this game have put a lot of work into making its music stand out. And this goes to show how hard they are trying to do something new with the game. Here’s hoping the game itself is as good as its music. The real-time combat really seems like something special, even if it changes most of what defines Final Fantasy combat in a nutshell.
